What You Should Eat During Your Detox

Detox foods are healthy, clean, organic,nourishing and cleansing. Good, wholesome food is one of the primary ingredients of a natural detox. These foods are and healing for your body. The list below provides the big picture of the major categories of foods you will eat during your a general detox. It also provides eating tips as well as foods to avoid.


Tips - Eat a variety and plenty of green leafy veggies. Eat different colored veggies. Eat salads. At least 50% raw and 50% fresh, lightly steamed, organically grown if possible.

Avoid- Starchy vegetables. Sprayed or canned, non-organic. French fries, potato chips, grilled potatoes.


Tips - Eat fresh whole fruit. Eat only a third as many fruits, berries and melons per day as total vegetables (i.e. 1 cup vegetables – 1/3 cup of fruit).

Avoid - Bananas, canned, dried sulfured fruits, frozen fruits, fruit juices.

Grains, Breads and Cereals

Tips - You will not eat grains, breads, rice, cereals or other starchy foods during the detox.

Avoid - Pasta, corn, rice, bread, cereal and any other starchy foods.


Tips - Include protein at every meal. Eat plenty of beans they are an excellent source of protein. Nuts and seeds are also an excellent source of protein and healthy fats.

Avoid - Beef, pork, fish, seafood, poultry (chicken, turkey), veal.

Dairy Substitutes

Tips - Almond milk, rice, coconut, oat and hemp milk. You may find yogurts and cheeses made from these milk substitutes.

Avoid - Dairy products. Milk, cheese, eggs in any form.

Nuts and Seeds

Tips - Raw nut butters. Eat raw almonds, pecans, brazil, pine nuts, etc.

Seeds: sunflower, chia, sesame, pumpkin, etc.

Avoid - Roasted and salted nuts. Cashews, peanuts and macadamias.


Tips - Smoothies, detox drink. Water is the only other recommended beverage.

Avoid - Alcohol, cocoa, coffee, soft drinks, sodas.


Tips - Use herbs and spices to make your food tasty. A detox does not mean you have to eat bland food. Fresh herbs are preferred.

Avoid - Black pepper, table salt, white vinegar. Spicy, hot foods. Condiments like ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise.


Tips - Use honey, stevia, agave, succanat, minimally.

Avoid - High sugars, especially refined sugars, high fructose corn syrup and artificial sweeteners.
