5 Day Detox Diet

The 5 day detox diet is a short program where solid foods are eliminated for 3 days then slowly reintroduced. If you are looking for a slightly longer or shorter detox try the 3 day detox or the 7 day detox. Your body is given a rest from the energy consuming task of digestion. Freeing that energy allows your body to focus on repair.

The suggested foods, supplements and the detox diet drink outlined below are designed to support your cells in their efforts to detox and cleanse. This page outlines the key components of a 5 day detox:

Drinking During the 5 day Detox Diet

Hydration is key during a detox. You can see that the focus for the first three days is on drinking your nutrients. For the same reasons you wash your body on the outside, you will want to drink plenty of filtered spring water to whisk away impurities on the inside. To get the maximum benefit from this detox, you should drink a protein drink and a detox diet drink during the first 3 days of this detox. A detox diet drink will help you to stay hydrated and draw out toxins. The protein drink provides protein and other nutrients to help your body detox as well as maintain your energy. Foods to Eat during Days 4 and 5

This is a great and simple detox. Its simplicity lies in the fact that it is for a short period of time and when you do eat, you will only eat vegetables. Most of the vegetables can be eaten in unlimited amounts. See the list of yummy veggies that you can consume during the 5 days. Eat at least half of your vegetables raw and eat the other half freshly, lightly steamed. Strive to eat organically grown vegetables if possible. This list is not exhaustive, so other vegetables not listed are okay to eat.

Daily Schedule for the 5 Day Detox Diet

Let's put this all together in a detailed daily schedule. Remember during days 1-3 you will be drinking your nutrients so you will have a protein shake (smoothie) for your meals. See detox diet menu for more details. Follow this schedule each day for 5 days:

  • 7:00 am: detox diet drink upon rising
  • 7:30 am: breakfast
  • 10:00 am: mid-morning snack
  • 12:30 pm detox diet drink
  • 1:00 pm: lunch
  • 3:30 pm: mid-afternoon snack
  • 6:00 pm: dinner
  • 8:30 pm: night-time snack
  • 9:00 pm: detox diet drink
  • 9:00 pm: Epsom salt bath (Optional)*

* For an extra treat - drink a warm relaxing tea while in tub or before bed (i.e. Chamomile, or other relaxing teas.)

Deepening your Detox

You can also support your detox with these cleansing activities.

  • Gentle exercise is recommended daily to encourage deep breathing and the elimination of toxins through the lungs. Listen to your body and don’t do more that it can handle during this time of cleansing.
  • Steam or sauna, as desired.
  • Allow yourself time to meditate or relax, giving your body the rest and relaxation necessary to promote healing.
  • High enemas are recommended at least once daily or colonic hydrotherapy 1 once per week (for 3 weeks) to ensure elimination of the toxins the body is sloughing off into the colon.
